Bomb assault murders seven individuals in Colombia
Authorities indicated that the attacks were orchestrated by dissident members of the FARC group loyal to Ivan Mordisco, in a move to mark the third anniversary of the death of Leider Johany Noscue, known as Mayimbu, a commander of the Western Coordinating Command who was killed in 2022.
The violence specifically targeted law enforcement. Among those killed was Jair Gonzalo Gurrute, a 24-year-old patrol officer from Caloto, who was shot by a sniper. Another police officer was killed when an explosive device detonated at his checkpoint near the Villa Rica toll booth in Cauca.
Two civilians died in separate explosions near police stations in Cali, while another bomb in Jamundi claimed the lives of four people, according to authorities. These incidents were also attributed to FARC dissidents.
Other non-lethal bombings occurred in several municipalities in Cauca, including Buenos Aires, Timbiqui, Corinto, and Patia.
Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez stated that the attacks were retaliation for recent successful military operations in the region.
